FASHION WEEK FAVES – #THROWBACKTHURSDAY – KATAYONE ADELI

One of my favourite designers from the early 2000s was Katayone Adeli. Not many people know her, but I did because well, I’m persian and as a fashion-lover, I was aware of pretty much any persian who made it in the industry.

She launched her label in the late 90s and soon gained a cult-like following of people obsessed with her perfect fitting pants (also loved by the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz). I too was obsessed with her pants, tops and dresses that were a perfect mix of soft, feminine and edgy.

Unfortunately, her success didn’t last too long. I later read somewhere that there were financial issues due to her brand becoming too popular too fast, tax/debt issues and a bad relationship with her investor. She did a small collaboration with 7 for All Mankind at some point, but that was pretty much it. Then in 2014, it was rumored that she might take over Helmut Lang, but clearly and sadly, that didn’t happen. To this day I still dream of a Katayone Adeli comeback… *sigh*

Here’s a medley of my all-time favourite looks from her runway shows that include Fall 2001, Spring 2002 and Fall 2003. Click here to see more of her on Vogue Runway, here for more #throwbackthursdayrunway on the blog, and here for more recent runway faves!
