JOON RESTAURANT

Let’s take a little break from fashion content so I can tell you about my latest restaurant discovery in Montreal. I found out about Joon restaurant a while ago on Instagram, but due to the pandemic, its opening date was delayed and they started offering take-out services only. I really wanted the traditional restaurant experience so I decided to wait. Last week, I was supposed to meet with a friend of mine and didn’t know what spot to pick since there are SO many to choose from (Montrealers are VERY lucky, we have a lot of amazing restaurants). And then it hit me: I’m Iranian, she’s half Armenian and Joon combines both of our cultures’ cuisines, so why not go there?

Honestly, we couldn’t have picked a better spot for our long overdue get-together! The food is inspired by Iranian, Armenian and Georgian dishes, with a personal twist. Some products like certain spices come directly from Iran, but the rest is locally sourced. I also read somewhere that chef and co-owner Erin Mahoney makes her own yogurt, cheese, charcuterie and bread. And boy are they delicious!

I didn’t take many pics as I wanted to enjoy the moment with my friend, so all I have is a picture of my to-die-for dessert. But here’s a list of everything we ate… not all of it is still on the menu so I don’t have the exact name for each dish and could only find some of them in French, but I tried to link each item to an Instagram pic for you to see:

-Joon bread: organic sunflower oil (see here, third slide)
-Marinated olives: pomegranate molasses, walnuts, mint (see here)
-Grilled Quebec sucrine: “sekanjebin” sweet and sour glaze, pressed homemade yogourt, pistachios (see here, second slide)
-Poached trout (Truite pochée servie froide, sauce à la coriandre, chips de grelots, rabiolles marinées et groseilles) (see here, third slide)
-Basterma (Basterma maison avec marinades et abricots) (see here, third slide)
-Beef and pork Kabob: Joon spices, side garnishes, on homemade lavash bread (see here, second slide)
-Saffron & pistachio ice cream (see my pic below)
