I think Birkenstocks started the whole “popular ugly shoe” phenomenon, but it’s the only ugly shoe that I ever grew to love. Today, I actually do like its aesthetic, especially compared to some of the hideous footwear out there like Crocs, the Margiela Tabi boots or the Balenciaga Triple S Sneakers… I don’t think I could ever find those remotely attractive. I’ve had my Birkenstock Arizona sandals for many years now and ended up giving them to my mom, but decided to get the exact same pair again, cause that’s how much I love them.
I recently noticed that the Boston clogs have been on every influencer’s feet and they’re starting to grow on me (although not as much as the Kyoto, which I’m desperately trying to get my hands on, but the colour/size I want is out of stock on the Birkenstock website).
